unable to access NAS using Safari or Firefox after unchecking "Enable secure connection (HTTPS)" box

I was unable to connect to my NAS drive using Firefox but was able to connect using Safari after going through warning that the connection was not secure. In Safari, I unchecked the box in the System / General Settings page thinking that I would be able to use an unsecured connection from Safari or Firefox.

Unfortunately, I am unable to access the NAS drive anymore.

In Firefox, I receive the following message in the address bar: “https://192.168.1.25/redirect.html?count=0.23349160818128867”. The “count” decimal changes each time I try and sometime I don’t even get that message.

In Safari, I receive a message that says “Failed to open page” and tells me “You are not connected to the internet. This page cannot be displayed because your computer is currently offline.”

I have shutdown the NAS using the power button but am still not able to access the drive. I also rebooted my MacBook and cleared the cache on Firefox.

The NAS drive is visible in QFinder Pro and I can access the folders using Finder.

Any help to restore access to the NAS through Safari or Firefox would be greatly appreciated.

Just in case, the default NAS HTTP management port is 8080.

Could you try to access by http://NAS_IP:8080/ ?

@HanzSung,

Thank you! That worked. I’ve been able to recheck the box I had unchecked.

How do I resolve this message in Firefox now that I’ve checked the box:

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to 192.168.1.25. PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR

Error code: PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR

In Safari, I now have to go through this message:

Any help to avoid having to jump through hoops in Safari (and to use Firefox) to access the interface would be appreciated. Thx.

The warning message from your firefox looks bit different than mine. However, you can still click “Show Details” and see if have any options to “Ignore” this warning.

The reason is because the NAS, by default, uses a self-signed certificate to claim it is the server you wants to connect to. And this is normal because a valid SSL cert usually costs.

However, you can also try to use letsencrypt to get a valid free SSL certification from myQNAPcloud Link Application.

Once the SSL certificate imported, the Warning should disappear.
In this case, you have to login myQNAPcloud ID on your NAS.

I just noticed that your screenshot is from Safari.
Press the Show Details, then in the last line of the descriptions you’ll see a link says “visit this website”, click it.

After you acknowledge that, the Safari shall let you go and not ask again.

Firefox should have the same options too.

@HanzSung,

Unfortunately when I try to run myQNAPcloud on the NAS drive, I receive the following:

I click “Sign In” and it brings me out of the NAS and into the QNAP website. After entering my username, I receive the following:

So for now, I’ll give up and try again tomorrow morning…not sure why this is happening.

I am not certain why this is happening to you and it might require QNAP’s cloud team to check on it.

Before that, you may just let the browser ignore the SSL warning for your NAS. It will be less annoying without the blocking warning message from the browser anyway.
