Hi there !
This is a really newbie question, but… I hope you can help me.
I’m working with a company who gave me access to a shared folder on their QNAP NAS.
I have to connect via internet.
They gave me the address
smb://xxxxxx.myqnapcloud.com/xxxxx (xxxx are private)
and a log and a pass.
I’m under windows 10.
I can’t manage to connect, either using “map network drive” and entering the address, nor using “add a network location”
First of all, am I going the right way ?
Thank you (I can’t asking them directly for the moment, the person is not available, and anyway, I know he’s a mac user)
Thank you for your help !!!
Exactly what type of cloud service are we talking about?
- Port forwards ? Never ever ever expose any QNAP service ports to WAN, and also certainly not SMB
- CloudLink ? I doubt that SMB is part of cloudlink.
So please talk to them and find out what they are doing
it sound like the company is trying to commit suicide.
@neko6tm Ask the company to supply you with a Remote vpn to connect to to the NAS share? Allowing smb over the net just madness.
Thank you for your answers.
I’m supposed to access a shared folder.
They gave me this address to connect, then a log and a pass.
I work with someone else on this project, he’s under mac, and he managed to connect, just by entering the address into “connect to a server”
But I"m under windows…
That’s what I read there and there on forums, yes…
From the protocol-wise it is dangerous. However, it is possible by typing the address in this format in your File Explorer like this:
\\xxxxxx.myqnapcloud.com\xxxxx
He has to make sure the ports of Samba are open to the Internet.
However, as above, it is better to use a VPN to the same LAN first or a more secure protocol instead.
in case you could not connect, or not being asked to input password, refer to this:
