I’m currently running the legacy TS-473 4x4TB HDD RAID 5. Having ten thousand+ photos, the QuMagie programs seems to be final straw…time to upgrade.
The two QNAP devices that have the NPU; TS-433eu and TS-AI642 … but which one? I have a small rack which my current NAS is on a shelf. The 433 seems to be a good fit, small, very low standby power (9W) but is it too limited? I can support a 10G connection. Looking to populate with 4TB SSDs so I’m thinking that would flood the 2.5G connection. Or maybe not??? Any real world advice? The TS-AI642 has a faster processor and will accept a faster LAN card.
Besides any NPU, both of these proposed ARM units are are downgrade in performance and compatibility to your current x86 based NAS. And are also NOT migration compatible (at least the 433 is not, I would be skeptical about the 642 as well.)
If you use http - then setup https in the control panel and force it to use https then you also get https in QuMagie. This allows the h2 protocol (http/2) to be used instead of http/1.1 and you will noticed pictures wll now load faster.
That’s one thing, for whatever reason, I didn’t think of…keep my TS-473 and install the QXG-10G1T 10G card. Need new SSDs anyway, so that’s a wash. The big thing I don’t like about my current one is 33W for just standby power.
The Coral M.2 accelerator is interesting. Will it fit the TS-473? I looked at the compatibility page and could not find it.
