Upgrade from TS-853A to new NAS

HI,
I’m planning to upgrade from a TS-853A to a new 8 or 10 disk NAS. I have 2 each 853A and want the new NAS to be compatible so I can use all three.

Please advise what model is the upgrade for the 853A.
Thank you

Hello,

the TS-873A
NAS System Migration Compatibility | QNAP
TS-873A | AMD Ryzen™ quad-core 2.2 GHz 2.5GbE NAS supports M.2 NVMe SSD and PCIe expansion for adding 10GbE high-speed connectivity and M.2 SSD; QTS and QuTS hero dual operating system for greater flexibility | QNAP

or a TVS-h874
NAS System Migration Compatibility | QNAP
TVS-h874 | Highly-reliable ZFS-based storage with PCIe Gen 4 expandability for 10/25GbE connectivity, M.2 NVMe SSD caching and multi-threads processors for virtualization applications | QNAP

or a TS-867X (new)
TS-867X | Built-in 10GbE, PCIe expansion, and USB4 deliver cost-effective, high-speed storage for studios and enterprises. | QNAP

@Becker2020 listed good choices.

The TS-873A and TS-86X both use the AMD Ryzen Embedded V1500B. This is a “decent” processor but it is not a great processor. Depending on your NAS usage, you may find this CPU lacking. It will be similar in performance to your TS-853A as the CPUs are roughly on par with each other.

The TVS-h874 uses an i5, an i7 or an i9. Any of these are way more powerful than the V1500B. It would be an excellent NAS. However, it’s quite a bit more expensive as the 8 by i7 model is $3000. And 8 bay TS-873A is going to be about half that depending on how much memory you add (the h874 comes with 32GB, the 873A with 8GB).

So a combination of your budget and your usage patterns need to be taken into account, not just a “replacement” for what you have.
