USB UPS Disconnecting - TS-873A QUTS Hero

Hey all,

Wondering if anyone might have any solutions to this one. I’ve noticed a couple of times that my USB UPS (PowerShield Defender) has been randomly disconnecting from QuTS Hero and is not reconnecting.

Logging in via SSH, lsusb does show me that the Cypress Semiconductor USB to Serial device remains connected but the NAS will not pick it up again until I remove the USB cable and plug it back in.

I’ve created an email alert in the interim to let me know however, this happened again at 2AM last night and leaves me a little concerned if we were to lose power that the device wouldn’t power down safely.

Is there possibly a way that I can monitor for this disconnection and rescan USB devices via a cron job (haven’t tried due to external drives being plugged in as well, but wondering if a simple udevadm trigger would pick the UPS back up), but has anyone else had similar issues or found a good solution?

Cheers!

You could try plugging it into a cheap USB hub. This has worked for others in the past.

Another had this problem in the old forum and after 2 years, the resolution was non-approved ram.

Hmm, very interesting - I’ll give a hub a shot and see if that makes anything behave any better for me.

Can’t seem to find the post on the old forum about ram being an issue (google-fu may be weak today), but I’m using Kingston ECC from their RAM finder and haven’t had any other issues with that.

It’s just very interesting that the device is still plugged in and really strange that the software just drops that out. I don’t really want to go down this line but maybe I’ll need to look at setting up a Raspberry Pi as a NUT server if this continues to be a problem.

I had that issue with a cyberpower UPS on a TS-853BU…I swapped UPS around and put and APC on the QNAP …no problems (in turn , the Cyberpower had no problem on a Windows Server host)

Nowadays I go for SNMP UPS…works without trouble

Kingston is good. The old thread was about ups disconnecting randomly. After 2 years and many suggestions the OP logged on to say that he upgraded ram and problem went away.
