Virtualization Station - I can't select the storage location

I have an h474. I’m failing at setting up Virtualization Station. I have two other NAS devices and don’t have this problem with them. So when I want to create or migrate a VM on the h474, I can’t get past the following point

As soon as I try to select the storage location, I can’t proceed any further. I’ve already let the search run for over 30 minutes. No success. Did I miss something?

Hello,

Have you selected a storage location?

Which QTS/QuTShero version and which VS version are installed?

I can’t select a storage location. I encounter the same issue under Preferences. I want to select a folder, but then the same thing happens as described. I don’t get the option to choose a folder because the system only displays “Loading”.

The question about the QTS/QuTShero and VS version is still open.

Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling VS.

Otherwise, it looks like a support case.

I even reset the QNAP and completely reconfigured it. The NAS is running QTS 5.2.7.3297 and VirtualizationStation ver. 4.1.0.327 (20251002).

You could try using VS 4.0.0.278.

Otherwise, you should open a ticket with support.

Yes, I am logged in with an admin account. I have version 4.0 installed. I am experiencing the same issues.

Thank you for your effort. I guess I won’t be able to avoid opening a ticket with support here.

I had installed both RAID arrays from my old NAS into the new NAS. After I felt I had tried everything and couldn’t get any further with support, I decided to completely reset the NAS. I initiated this via Control Panel (Reinitialize NAS).

I noticed that when installing an app, I no longer had to select a storage pool (on the new NAS). Just for your information, I have a RAID5 (NVMe) and a RAID1 (HDD).

After setting up the NAS again, the first app I installed was “Virtualization Station.” Bingo, I was able to choose the storage location. Of course, I had previously set up the RAIDs and shared folders.

The problem is File Manager 6, it’s still buggy. Install version 5, that’s it!

I came to the same conclusion last night.

After Microsoft’s Patchday (Win11), I wanted to adjust a VM.

This error occurred with 2 of my NAS devices.

Before installing the latest QTS/QuTS hero updates, everything was still working.

With another NAS, the error did not occur.

No errors:

TS-364, QTS 5.2.7.3297, VS 4.1.0.327, FileStation5 5.5.6.5018

NAS with the error

TS-364, QTS 5.2.7.3297, VS 4.1.0.327, FileStation6 6.0.3.7381

TVS-h674, QuTS hero h5.2.7.3297, VS 4.1.0.327, FileStation6 6.0.3.7381

By switching to FileStation 5, the error could be resolved on both NAS devices.

Note:

The error apparently only occurs since the QTS/QuTS hero update to version 5.2.7.3297 in connection with FileStation6.

There is an update for VS.

Virtualization Station 4.1.0.328 2025/11/13

[Important Notes]

[Fixed Issues]

  • Fixed an issue where Virtualization Station could not browse files through File Station 6.0.0 Beta, preventing users from creating or importing virtual machines.

[Compatibility]

  • Before updating to Virtualization Station 4.0, it is recommended to verify the compatibility of your existing applications and data with the new version. For details, see What are the recommended considerations before updating to Virtualization Station 4.0?

For your information:

After I reinitialized the NAS, I also installed the app “File Station 6”. It works.
