Had the same problem. Did a firmware update and issue was gone. Perhaps your firmware is outdated too?
same here. fresh install of ubuntu server - seeing thumbnail, nothing in main console view. frustrating…
We’ve observed that some older QTS versions might encounter the issue described in this FAQ:

If you’re already on the latest QTS version and still facing problems, please try connecting directly using your NAS’s local IP address (e.g., 192.168.x.x). This can help us rule out any potential impact from your network or router.

thanks - I can confirm I’m running 5.2.4.3079 and connecting directly on my local address. I’m using the “Ubuntu Linux Station” app for now as a fallback.
Did you manage to resolve this? I’m having the same issue with VS 4.0.0.278 on QTS 5.2.6.3195 running on TS-453D. I tried to uninstall and reinstall VS, no luck. I too can see the screen on the thumbnail but nothing on the console. Black screen.

I had the same problem. I was able to fix it by uninstalling the VS package. After that, I downloaded the VS package from the Qnap-homepage and installed it manually. (QVS_4.1.0.327_20251002_amd64.zip) After the manual installation, everything worked and the console was visible. Maybe this helps someone and works for you as well.
