Add NAS folder to Explorer from outside the network

I just want to map a NAS folder (TS-220) from outside the LAN in Internet Explorer (Win11).

Basically, just like you would with Dropbox or any other cloud service.
The search function here seems to be completely broken and provides zero answers, not even wrong ones.

With Qfinder, it seems you can map folders, but only if you’re on the same network.
But actually, you shouldn’t need extra software for that.
myCloud doesn’t lead to the goal either.
Do I really have to set up a VPN to connect both networks?

Ich verstehe Dein Problem nicht ganz, aber JA, die beste Methode zum Einrichten des Fernzugriffs, wenn die Sicherheit und der Schutz deiner Daten wichtig ist, ist die Verwendung eines VPNs.

Not really understanding your issue, but, YES, the best way to set up remote access if you care about security and protecting yout data, is to use a VPN.

Dropbox and other cloud services are different from SMB.

Running anything other than SMB on the old NAS (TS-220), forget it too (things like Nextcloud).

A VPN connection (on the router, not the NAS) is the only option.
