VPN set-up in QNAP

Dear all,
If we know how to set up a VPN server through QNAP NAS, please share it with me.
Regards.

Best to not use a NAS as edge device…but here ya go:

I would recommend using a router that supports Wireguard and using a Wireguard VPN connection to access your LAN which would give you access to your NAS.

Dear all,
Thank you very much for your replies/
I have successfully set up the VPN server after watching the following video:

That’s great.

I just hope that you understance the points made previously and take note of the vulnerabilities in the past when it comes to exposing a QNAP (and many other NAS devices) to the internet with or without a firewall running on that device.

It is pretty well accepted that the VPN and firewall should really be installed on the router, or at a minimum a device (or software) that has a proven track record of reliability and security.

Thus, the ideal spot to run this is typically your router. There are thousands of posts and reasons why this makes sense and I’ll let you do your own research and obviously it is up to you to decide if whatever you are doing is a risk or not, and if that is or is not acceptable to you as afterall it is YOUR data that you are putting at risk.

There are a number of reasons why might chose to install a vpn server on a device other than a router as discussed here how to access nas from outside network - #8 by Spile

At my house I run VPN on NAS and only allow VPN ports for forwarding.

As additional layer of secure I setup QuFirewall that only allow specific IP ranges/ports. This makes things bit safer.

By the way in case I fly to business trip and forget to change the firewall settings - I still have a chance to use myQNAPcloud Link to my NAS and change the settings remotely.
