WD Red plus vs pro

Hi, I was shipped the wrong drives due to an error on the QNAP estore. They advertised WD Red Pro but they actually meant WD Red Plus (and that’s what I got). So I can either return it or just deal with what I have. I’ve already ordered some nvme and memory in anticipation so I’de prefer to use it - which will be mostly one or two people.

Any observations/comments on performance fo the WD Red Plus vs Pro for mild use?

Thanks.

In the past the Plus (or non Pro) had lower noise levels. The Pro were a bit faster.

Most important factor (for me) was the longer warranty on Pro drives (5 years)

I hope a QNAP employee could say something about it.

I have already sent a private message to the OP, asking them to provide the e-commerce platform and product link when convenient.

Separately, regarding the difference between the Plus and Pro models, we would like to first confirm your internet speed? Thanks!

Hi Steve I replied to your message.

Regarding the internet speed I’m not sure how that relates to the Red Plus or Pro, but I have a GigE switch on my intranet, so 2G if I bond, but I might upgrade to 2.5G in a year.

Issue with Red Pro is not just being able to drive it harder over the network. The warranty and vibration monitoring is different on the Pro series, and I also run ZFS/QuTS so in theory the drives get hit a bit more. On any normal day I would have sent an email to usstore@qnap.com and ask if they “really” meant Pro, however this was black friday week so I didn’t second guess a good deal.
