Corrupted Web Management GUI icons after Firmware upgrade

So I just upgraded to QTS 5.2.8.3332 build 20251128 (nothing unusual during the upgrade – restarted NAS beforehand, etc.), but after the final reboot and logging back into the Web Management GUI, some of my QNAP Desktop Shortcuts no longer display their App icon, and instead show the generic green icon with “QPKG” written on it.

Some are fine (e.g. File Station, App Centre, QuMagie), but some that now have the generic icon include QuFirewall, Security Centre, etc.

Expanding the “Main Menu” in the top-left of the GUI (where Desktop shortcuts are “created” from) shows the same mix of correct icons and generic icons per App. Interestingly, everything under the “Systems” part of the menu is fine – but under the “Applications” part of the menu, it’s about 10 proper icons, 20 generic icons…

I’ve rebooted several times; I’ve logged in using a different account; I’ve downloaded QPKG packages and manually (re-)installed a couple of the Apps; but so far, no luck.

If I open “App Centre” itself, all of the displayed apps (whether “mine” or “all”) have their correct icon (I realize those icon graphics are probably displayed from a different source graphic).

All of the Apps with the generic icon that I’ve tested launch fine (and show the proper config – like my custom config in QuFirewall), and the system generally seems to be working fine. Having tried to research the issue, the only thing I hadn’t tried was a File System check, so I started that, it just finished, but still these generic icons are being displayed for random apps…

I assume it’s just something like an (icon) cache that’s been cleared or corrupted, and they just need to be re-generated somehow – I would have thought an app re-install would do that, but apparently not. (I haven’t tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling an app, just in case that loses app configuration – while hoping for another solution).

NAS Model: TS-453 Pro

Firmware: QTS 5.2.8.3332 build 20251128

4 x 4TB WD Red Drives (WD40EFRX-68WT0N0) in RAID 10

Any suggestions welcome…..

Could you please provide a screenshot of this issue? This would greatly help us in trying to pinpoint the problem. Thank you!

Thanks for taking an interest in this issue…

Here’s a screenshot showing:

1/ “Main Menu” ‘mix’ of good and ‘bad’ icons

2 / A couple of the icons on the Desktop - e.g. showing FS5 & Help Centre are ok, but QuMagie & Security Centre aren’t

3/ App Center open in a Window in the background, showing that, for example, QuMagie icon is ok inside App Center (albeit as mentioned, probably a different “source” graphic)

Hold that thought…

As the icons were what I considered “QNAP generated, rendered and displayed”, I presumed that this couldn’t be a Browser issue. Duh.

But I just launched an Incognito Browser window and they render/display fine.

Going to try and clear Browser cache for just NAS GUI url/site and see if I can clear it.

Can’t believe I dismissed the browser being the issue so quickly - probably because in my head the most recent “change” was the firmware upgrade, so focussed on that…

But clearing cached images & files only, for “All time”, has fixed the issue…..

I have same issue but even using a different browser or an incognito window doesn’t fix it. My issue was after a firmware upgrade, also. as in the screen-capture, my menu has same generic qnap icon

If nothing else helps..try reinstalling the current firmware again

I have the same problem. It occurs with QTS 5.2.8.3332 build 20251128 and also with firmware QTS 5.2.8.3359 build 20251216. Hardware: TS-251+. When I downgrade to QTS 5.2.7.3397 build 20251024, the icons look fine again!

Instead of downgrading, did you try to reinstall the firmware?

I also reinstalled the firmware. No change! The wrong icons are still being displayed.

Hi, please try the workaround suggested in this FAQ first to see if it resolves the issue. If the problem persists, we will have a fix included in the next release. Thanks!

Why do my QPKG app icons become generic icons after updating the firmware? | QNAP

I tried the workaround with Firefox and MS Edge. Unfortunately, the problem persists.

I haven’t seen the QPKG icons sticking around, but in the latest FW update, I have seen my icons go completely blank white sometimes, but they do seem to come back eventually…

With QTS 5.2.8.3359 solved.
