Files disappear randomly

Hi, I am using a Qnap TS231-P as data storage for my Nextcloud instance. I setup a volume which is connected via nfs to my Nextcloud server, this is working for years.
The last weeks users reported that files are missing randomly. I check and found that sometimes complete user folders are missing. It’s not that only files are missing, sometimes complete folders get lost. Yesterday my own folders were deleted, so I had to struggle recovering from an OneDrive Backup.

Is it known that the current Qnap firmware is having a bug? For me it looks like this problem comes when older snapshots must be deleted.

Same user as here? (NAS and usage matches…but topic was abandoned)

Yes, sorry also my post…

To help investigate the disappearing files, we highly recommend you enable Access Logs. These logs can be very useful for tracking down the potential causes.

Additionally, please try to observe if the missing files share any common characteristics, such as file size, location, or any other factors. This could provide crucial clues.

If these symptoms continue to appear, please feel free to open a support ticket with our Support Team for further assistance.

You might also want to run some drive diagnostics. Files can “disappear” if there is corruption or disk errors.

Hi, now tonight it happened again.

My setup is the following:
Local Server running Proxmox
In Proxmox a Container is runnig Nextcloud

The folder /var/www/html is not in the container, but on a NFS Share hosted on my QNAP.

The Datafolder from my nextcloud containing all big files etc. is on a 2nd share hosted on my QNAP. Both Shares are on the same Volume.

This volume has daily snapshots enabled.

Tonight at 01:00 my Backupjob running HBS3 was syncing all files successfully to OneDrive.

At 07:00 my cronjob reported that my Nextcloud data folder was gone, so I checked and can confirm:
All Shares on this volume are gone, almost all files deleted. I just found a nextcloud.log file with 0kb.

I am now restoring the files from my last backup, but my question is:
Why do i Loose data?

I got an info yesterday that the maximum numbers of snapshots are reached, and the last one will now be overwritten.

I more and more think that the snapshot functionality is broken and deleting data.

We’ve received the ticket you opened. Our support team will now be analyzing the logs you provided.

Thanks!

Thank you very much.

Here the picture where you can see that almost all files are gone.
