How to view old 'forum.qnap.com' posts that were blocked by login?

Hi, I’ve been away for a long time from the QNAP community. Today I was looking for an old thread and noticed that since 2025 the old forum has been discontinued. Actually I read about that but I thought it would have been set as read only.

My question is: how do I retrieve old information that was “protected” by a login on the old forum? For example, a thread like this:

https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?t=52511

obviously asks for a login, but even if I provide mine, the only thing that I get is an The specified username is currently inactive error. So, if the forum is read-only, the parts hidden by a login should be made public too, otherwise they’re lost forever!

My bookmarked topics cannot be recovered, but at least Gopgle could be used to search the old information if the old forum search engine cannot be used anymore (annoying, too).

It’s a pity that such a great piece of info, and history and memories are lost in a black hole.

Hi mate, good to see you here.

I agree, it would be better if QNAP simply(?) removed the requirement to login. It seems that QNAP only set the old forum database as read-only, but left the UI functionality as-is.

@SteveKo, can the login requirement to the old forum be removed please?

Yeah!

I have to say that for me it is also an affective matter to “get back” the old forum posts, not only of missing knowledge.

Same problem here. Wasn’t allowed to see files attached to a post without logging in. Tried to login and simply tells me my account is inactive. No explanation why or that the whole forum now has no login anymore. And as you guys already said, they didn’t release the requirement for the login. Another half-ass job well done.

BTW: Is there somewhere an explanation for this forum to community move? What was the benefit of making life difficult for the customers? Can’t be to attract more customers.

The old forum was plagued by performance and spammer issues.

So QNAP went to discourse as a new platform. We asked QNAP to keep the old forum active as read only, to preserve the info.

Personally I don’t like discourse a lot, because I feel it “confusing”, but I can accept it and also the read only status of the old forum.

But the whole forum should be available, including the parts that were formerly protected by the login. The search engine would be useful, too.

Thanks for your suggestion! I’ll discuss this with our internal team to see how we can address it. Thanks!

Some good news, it seems we can now access the old forum posts without a login. :+1:

Unfortunately, the search system is disabled. I’m hoping QNAP will figure-out how to enable it again.

More or less… from Chrome and Firefox browser I can see the forum, while from Samsung Internet I get a Forbidden error. Maybe there’s an user agent filter now?

Also I cannot open the direct link I’ve posted above in the first post, as it asks for a login. And the home page does not list the QPKG section, for example.

That’s a pity, too, especially if Google cannot index the forum pages.

I’m still unable to access the link above without a login. Are you able to open the URL and it’s just an issue on my side or the discussion is still ongoing?

No, I can’t load that link without a login request page appearing (which fails as it looks like the logins have been removed). Is it to a QPKG discussion topic?

I can’t see the QPKG sub-forums either. :frowning:

OK, thanks, same here!

Yes, it was the main TVHeadend discussion thread, still on my Firefox history.

The URL in fact was part of the QPKG sub-forums. Let’s hope @SteveKo can convince his team to unlock the whole forum (and hopefully the search feature), sooner or later.

I just wanted to point out that this is still unsolved

Hey virtualdj,

Great to see that you’re still active. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to reach you via the old forum or Discord, so I thought that was it.

That makes me all the happier to see you apparently plan to stay active.

Maybe you should check out the Discord channel.

I’m glad you’re still interested in all of this.

After discussing with our internal team, we are able to open access to the old forum for select users upon request. Once approved, you will be able to log in to the old forum for a limited period to retrieve information. We understand this is a bit inconvenient, but this is due to the architecture and security considerations of the old forum. We will be sharing the application process with those of you who need to access the old forum shortly. Thanks for your support!

OK, thanks. Count me as an applicant (same username)! :+1:
