I kinda have an extra NAS (TVS-882) i7 32gb ram-CPU was upgraded) I would be happy to put 6 beta on it. I mainly use it for backup of backup, but it is running PiHole in Docker and connected to two entirely different networks and other weirdness that might show problems with beta software.

On the QuTS Hero side, 5.3 is really just for people who need the High Availability function. It’s got a lot of potential other issues with applications and so forth. I’m guessing everything will move right to 6.0
But from the way some of the new apps look in 5.3, I think I will dislike the look and feel of 6.0

Can I still join the 6.0.0 beta program? I’d like to be included in the program.
Here is my wish list for 6.0:
- A modern kernel - at least 6.16 so that it supports the new RTL8127 10Gbe NIC. I’d love to see NASes using that cheap and power efficient chip. This would also enable support for newer iGPU (transcoding)
- A more recent docker engine - and regular updates
- More modularity. This already happened in 5.x, where SAMBA is now a standalone apps, MariaDB became an app, … I would love to be able to uninstall myQNAPCloud, QTS SSL certificate, to further reduce the attack surface.
- Modern support of ipv6 (Qnap, Home Assistant & Thread - why it can’t work : r/qnap)
- A refreshed web interface - the current one is functional, but it could be more eye candy
I have a TS-432X populated with 3X4Gb drives and 1X6TB drive configured as RAID 5. (Following a drive failure)
It would be great if QTS 6.0.x could allow us to access the “missing” 2 TB from the 6TB drive in any way shape or form rather than have it wasted.
I don’t think that’s a function of the OS. AFAIK, that’s a function of the way RAID works. No matter whose system you use, the behavior is like this. The drive with the smallest size determines the size of the array.

I fully understand the 2Tb could never be part of the RAID space because as you say that is totally against the way RAID works. But there may be a way to expose it as a small area for use as a standard unprotected volume. It would be a good step over the competitors to have this as an extra bonus.
QTS 6 needs to be a faster and more snappy OS for the user web interface experience.

Again, I don’t think that’s a QNAP OS thing. It has to do with the way the drives themselves and RAID works. The extra space is just unavailable. It seems like you should be able to but I don’t think that QNAP could access it if they wanted to.
It can be done, and it’s possible with mdraid (Synology do it), but I suspect QNAP don’t want the headaches that come with supporting storage configs like this.

My NAS is TS-464 with 32G of RAM
My wish list - QTS web GUI honoring X-Forwarded-For headers when reporting who has failed the login attempt. Numerous logged failed attempts are of no use to me if QTS reports they came from my reverse proxy.
How to join the Beta program for QTS 6?
QuTS Hero 6 on the qnap site and available through normal beta channels now. I updated my backup NAS to it a couple hours ago with no issue.
