unable to access NAS drives using browsers

I tried accessing my NAS drives using Safari and Firefox but am unable to access them. I receive the following messages:

The message about not connected to the Internet isn’t correct….I can access the internet and I can reach both NAS drives through Finder.

Qfinder also sees both NAS drives (TS-251B and TS-251). Both are running QTS 5.2.7.3297.

I’m running Tahoe 26.1 on a MacBook Pro.

In the past I’ve had trouble accessing them because I haven’t been able to update the SSL certificates on my NAS drives: https://community.qnap.com/t/unable-to-access-nas-using-safari-or-firefox-after-unchecking-enable-secure-connection-https-box/349/4

I’ve permitted Firefox to have access to my local network. The drives are used for backup purposes and as a music server. I don’t access them from outside the house so don’t really need myQNAPcloud services.

Any assistance to get my access back would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

And the screenshots above are from firefox?

No, those are from Safari. With Firefox, when I try to access them I didn’t get anything. However after closing out and checking before replying to you, I can access them using Firefox if I use “Firefox Suggest” links that I’ve used in the past.

Given that the NAS units and drives are about 6-7 years old I’m wondering if I should buy new units and drives and if that will also solve the access issues I encountered at the end of 2024 and again this morning.

Because I use Safari more than Firefox, I would like to be able to address the access issue when using Safari.

The error is “navigation failed”, seemingly to indicate you can’t connect to 192.168.1.25. What is your IP and subnet? How are you connected to the NAS (switches, router, etc)?

Basic functionality should work regardless of the age of the NAS.

You could try a 3 second reset to put things back to default and reset to HTTP instead of HTTPS if you are having certificate issues.

Hello people, please read the full browser error message:

The request made was http but it looks like your NAS is set up for https only. That’s likely your issue.

So let’s step back and diagnose things:

1.) Do NOT just go and reset your NAS w/o trying a few things first.

2.) Make sure your computer’s IP network and subnet match that of the NAS.

3.) Can you find the NAS in Qfinder? Does it see it?

4.) Can you open a command prompt and ping the NAS (ie: ping 192.168.1.25)

I’m betting the Safari error is what the issue is though - you only have https set as an acceptable connection method. This is not needed on a LAN.

@NA9D,

Thx for the quick reply…pls see my answers:

1.) Do NOT just go and reset your NAS w/o trying a few things first.

Agreed.

2.) Make sure your computer’s IP network and subnet match that of the NAS.

Yes, my IP network and subnet match that of the NAS.

3.) Can you find the NAS in Qfinder? Does it see it?

Yes, I can find both NAS drives in Qfinder. That’s how I was able to provide the specific QTS versions.

4.) Can you open a command prompt and ping the NAS (ie: ping 192.168.1.25)

Yes, I can do so to both NAS drives.

Thanks for your help.

What does the system administration tab of the control panel look like. Here is mine. I’m not forcing HTTPS. What does yours look like?

@NA9D,

Here are my two screens. One is identical to your’s except I have TLS version compatibility to 1.1 rather than 1.2

The second is completely different and I’m not sure why (other than I’m a novice and my have changed settings either inadvertently or for some unknown reason.

Would be interested in your perspective on what I should change. Thx.

@NA9D

Here’s my setting for. the 2nd. Not sure why the first screenshot didn’t display the settings accurately.

Hmm. I’m not entirely sure why your browsers are insisting on HTTPS. But I would suggest using TLS 1.2 instead of 1.1.

I would not be surprised if Tahoe is insisting on it.

How are you accessing the NAS since you said you can’t access it in the first message? Are you using HTTPS?

I changed it to TLS 1.2 but no change.

I’m now using Firefox to access the NAS units. I had been able to do so with Safari until about three weeks ago. Only change is upgrading to Tahoe however I’ve checked the Privacy settings in Tahoe however they’re not different than what I had before.

Hmm. Very strange. Safari can do some weird stuff sometimes.

Have I asked if you have cleared your cache and all that stuff? Sorry if that’s been asked and answered.
